Hello everyone! I'm totally new to this forum but I've always been very fond of the Canadian French dub "Astro le petit robot" and while surfing the internet I found your site and discovered the excistenceof a Canadian English dub based on the French dub I grew up with.

I was working on a HD master (using the HD Blu-ray) of the Canadian French dub and I though it would be a nice thing if the same would be done for the 7 available english episodes.

I was wondering if anyone was interested in helping me with this small project. I have a base for episode 3, Save the classmate, ready. I'm still working on recreating the Geronimo segment though. If someone could help with spotting some scenes for these segments that would be of great help too.

I have recreated the first 13 episodes (without geronimo segments in french and i'm planning on doing all 51 episodes.

Thank you very much! I'm really happy there is interest in this little astro-related project. Like you might see the video edit I uploaded ends quiet abruptly because I am missing that one small scene coming after it. I have spotted every scene to create the little geronimo prequel but I'm just missing that one scene to complete episodes. I would like to know from which episode it's taken.

I was wondering how many episodes have been found until now. I read up to 7, right? I have 3 episodes out of those that are virtually complete, only waiting for their Geronimo segment. The final edit wil also have english credits on intro and outro.

Hm I know the dailymotion user Robotkat has been searching for content regarding this version for quite some time.
The tapes were probably damaged or wiped so the chance of getting every scene isn't too high.

Getting in contact with RobotKat, Conelrad on MySpleen or finding canadians who recorded the series on tape back in the late 80s and early 90s from Global Television affiliated regional stations are probably your best option.

The next scene is from The Snow Leopard, after Astro is defeated by the snow leopard and falls to the ground holding part of its tail. He's getting checked on a table at the Ministry of Science by a damage repair computer with flashing lights.

You probably have the final scene. It's from Astro Fights Aliens. It's the engine room of the Silvercross, shown between Captain Astro's speech and his onboard inspection.

Hey DrFrag, Could you tell me the episode number? Is it episode 44? I Found EVERY scene after the missing one! I'll post an update of the progress of the video after I finish the whole geronimo segment! You guys are really great! Thank you for the help!

I also corrected on frame in the little pre-intro where you see professor Baltus hand hover over a button. If you listen closely you hear a click during that scene. I switched it with a scene where his hand is actually pushing the button (since the machines starts working it seemed more logical). if you prefer me to stay a 100% close to the original master, I can do that too.

I really enjoyed the post from the astroboy voice actor! a real nice read! I know Daniel Bertolino is on facebook too. Maybe someone should contact him on more info about the masters.

I was also wondering if someone here French Canadian VHS releases they could borrow to recreate as much episodes as possible, as close as possible to the original source. The French DVD Set has every element apart on them so it's a litle harder too do.

Yep, The Snow Leopard is episode 44 in the Japanese version. It's the 4th episode on disc 7 of the Blurays. The scene is at 10m17s.

I think Kalhi has done some work on restoring this dub, and he has a better ear for audio than me.

How do you go about reducing film grain on pre-digital HD anime?

I'm starting from a bluray rip by [Kirion]. I'm just using tmpgenc smart rendering to cut out the scenes but not re-encode the whole episode, only the places where there has been cut.

I check my cuts are right on the timeline from tmpenc video mastering works, counting frames, checking the animation moves the same way it does on the French dvd master (I own the French dvd sets though).

I'm definitely not a specialist but more a fan who likes to learn new stuff and share them with people.

I've almost wrapped up a new "master" for episode 2 and 22, will do episode 3 after that. Only have to recreate the geronomi segment for that episode. I'll upload a checkup version of both finished episodes somewhere this week.
