"Full Circle" - my first ff.net story is up

Sounds like a LOT of coffee!

Well I've slowed down a bit. Still I should have updates for both of my current stories before the end of the weekend. We had a power outage last night due to the storm. Lighting hit a power line and blew a 12000 volt fuse.

This is an awesome story! Part of me just doesn't want Atom to grow up just yet, (haven't even been a fan for a year).

I have this story because I was the same age as Atom when he first came on TV in the 1960's, and I found that as I grew up, it occurred to me that it would be interesting to see how Atom would relate to the world as a grown up robot. Then . . . when cloning became a reality, it seemed logical that Tenma would have probably cloned Tobio . . . but then he would have super-powers and live as "Astro Boy."

So I thought about the idea of cloning - and having to deal with crashing computers all the time - I wondered . . . could Astro crash? And if so, why would he crash? From my own experience it seems to always be the hard drive or the motherboard - that kind of equates to Astro's AI.

One idea led to another, and I finally thought it would be interesting to have Astro's AI migrate to a human body. Why not a clone of his "original" human body?

Then I thought - would it be cool if he woke up as Tobio/Astor AND Astro "together" . . . so he'd have the incredible experience of being both human and machine.

I LOVE him as a child hero (I'm now watching almost 100 episodes that are "new" to me because they were never translated into English! :w00t

But - kind of like Superman, I guess - he is such a fascinating character (and I've been a fan for 50 years now) I wanted more than just having him "stuck" in time and place. Writing out all these things I imagined over so many years is incredibly fun.

So I don't mean to suggest you should "rush" your own enjoyment of Atom - and I hope he becomes a life-long source of inspiration for you too!

Hey, It's possible to imagine Astro existing simultaneously across several different AU's. I've been writing some stories in a setting that is totally my own invention with all OC's EXCEPT for Astro, though even here he is "different". And here I have been slowly having him 'grow up', though his ultimate transition to an adult hasn't been written yet.....

BUT, I still like the "original" Tezuka setting(s), and that "(s)" is necessary because Tezuka and the current copyright holders to Astro have changed things many times. I've written two stories that take place from a first person POV looking into the anime/manga world as if it was real, and two stories that sorta do the same (one first person POV, one second person), but in these Astro isn't 'actually' real (or is he?).

So you can have fun with it in many ways. I'm now doing a cross over story using the Astro characters as they were in the 1980 anime. I have a few other cross over ideas, also based on Astro using bits from 1960-2003.

I like AprilSeven's story, and I don't see it as a problem to still thinking of Astro as a child in other stories. Tezuka jumped back and forth in time, I'm doing the same.

Chapter 8 is very short, but I wanted to try and get back in the habit of posting SOMETHING. Life gets busy, but this still goes on in my head!

I hope you find the time to update this at a regular pace, with Dan finished with F&F and DCP on Hiatus I need something to look forward to!

Meanwhile I hope to do another installment on Eureka soon, and there is something else I intend to start posting soon as well.

Chapter 9 is up and brings you back into the past with Astor and Nick - and then years later when Nick meets the robot who took the place of his deceased bff.

I really do wonder why Tezuka never connected a friend of Tobio to Atom . . .

I get the idea that Tobio might not have made many friends, hence his clinging to his father who didn't give him much attention.

The first mention of Astro in charge of the Venus mission reminded me of the mission to Mars story.

That's right! He's already got "commander" experience!

That whole Venus expedition is a story unto itself - it's tricky to cut it down to fit with the rest of this, and yet leave enough to show the dynamics of what happens between the characters.
