Yeah, Ochanomizu is under-appreciated.

My drawings thus far have mostly been 2003 series inspired, but let's not forget the original television series! After seeing several clips and screenshots, I've noticed that proportions are handled somewhat loosely in the series, especially for Ochanomizu.

Let's go old school:

I never could figure out how the buttons on his jacket worked. Did it open to the left or the right, or were they fake and the jacket was a pull over?

I made a short comic page of Dr. Ochanomizu realizing that his is unable to revive Astro.

I drew it to make sense when read from left to right or right to left.

In the comic I like the whole idea of being able to read either from the left or even the right. You made it work, although I think it'd be a lot more difficult to make it work in a longer comic format-- but I've never tried it, so it could be easier than I think it to be.

alexcat - Yeah, I don't know how difficult it would be to draw a longer comic that could be read from either direction. I kept my panels very simple, but a more elaborate set up would probably direct the reader in one direction over the other.

Here is a quick Astro Boy sketch that I colored. I've gotten better at drawing him, I think.

My copy of Let's Draw Manga: Astro Boy arrived, so I've been absorbing artistic information like a little sponge. I've already learned some useful tips, but I've got a ways to go. Here are a few drawings from today:
