Flight 370

Postby Tetsuwan Penguin » 8 years ago

Malaysian Airlines flight 370 disappeared over the Pacific almost two years ago without a trace. Now the true story can be told! This is a crossover fan fiction between Astro Boy and Clive Cussler's Numa series books.

Oh, um...

Not to be rude or anything; the story is (probably) fine, but... don't you think that writing a fanfiction about this so soon is sort of disrespectful? I know you don't mean it that way, but, this is likely something that is still rather strongly affecting living persons whose family members, friends, and loved ones were on that flight...

I don't know; it just seems sort of... tasteless to me. You can write about whatever you want, but when it comes to publishing stories based on real-life events, particularly fanfictions, I think that it would be best to make the events mentioned in the story fictional as well, if that makes sense? I don't want to criticize you; it's just... I'm not sure that this will sit well with some people.

I'm sorry you see it that way. It's been almost two years since the disappearance and most of the search efforts have been abandoned. I don't mean ANY disrespect, I was just using the event as an anchor point for my story. There have been MANY fictional stories about the Titanic, Lusitania, Maine, etc. I'm not going to pin the blame on the flight crew (current theories point to pilot suicide), but leave the cause of the crash totally to the readers imagination.

Disasters, both man made and acts of God happen, and such events often figure in the plots of fictional stories set in the real world. Should we just pretend these disasters never happened and just never mention them? I think that would also be disrespectful, it would be as if the victims never existed. Rather, we should give thanks to the brave men and women that risk their lives searching for the lost souls.

I think that most of those events you mentioned (I'm not completely sure about all of them, as I've never heard of them) happened a long time ago. I do know that people do things like this all the time, but, this just feels kind of recent, and makes me slightly uncomfortable. Plus, I'm a more than a little worried about backlash.

For the record, is it only a passing reference? And also, I thought that they found parts of it.

I'm just asking bc there's not a lot to read in this fandom, and I wanna know if it's too much in bad taste if I do this or not. Although that's probably a matter of opinion, and one to be decided after I've started reading, in which case, if it is in bad taste, then it's already too late...

Also, what is Numa? I don't usually like going into these fanfictions of yours with some really obscure crossovers, but sometimes I do anyway (remember, like I said, there is a shortage).

From some online research I've done, it seems that the only debris ever found from the plane were parts of control surfaces. It's likely these broke off when the aircraft was still in flight, which would indicate an out of control situation before it went down. AFAIK, no actual wreckage, or remains were ever found and the aircraft has still be be located underwater.

NUMA, is a fictitious US agency devoted to Marine research. It is an invention of Clive Cussler, who has written more than a dozen novels involving the "National Underwater and Marine Agency".

Some parts have allegedly been found on the Réunion island, shipped to France, and found to belong to the plane. The story faded out after a few days, so I'm not really sure if everything is true, or has been invalidated later but not reported by the media because ti wouldn't catch eyeballs
The real sign that someone has become a fanatic is that he completely loses his sense of humor about some important facet of his life. When humor goes, it means he's lost his perspective.

I've read that, but later reports also indicated that the first ones were false. The only parts that have been positively identified as from that plane belonged to one of the wings, and they could have broken off in flight. There have been lots of wild speculation and far off stories online, including the find of an aircraft fuselage filled with skeletons of the passengers. These have all been untrue.

It is a bit unfortunate that I have a bit of a morbid curiosity for these kinds of things. It just seems so tasteless... (although clearly I'm not as bad as some people; "skeletons of the passengers", I ask you...)

While I'm still a bit undecided, I might give this a go later. I'm like, super bored 95% of the time.
