Ochanomizu felt the sting of Tenma's sharp words in his heart.
Of course he thought of Astro as the son he had never had. But who did Astro "belong to?" The MOS (it was their funds he was built with)? Tenma, because he had engineered and built the child? Child? Was he human or machine? Clearly he was a sentient being - and shouldn't be dealt with as a "thing." Obviously his own values had been instilled in the boy over the years, so it would be ridiculous to be considered anything less than a father to Astro....
...he suddenly snapped back to attention, having let his mind wander. Looking up, he saw Dr. Tenma glaring at him anew with a look of prideful accomplishment for having derailed his concentration.
O: You appear to be taking pleasure in trying to hurt my feelings, I see
Tenma's expression when flat once more.
O: I saw a child in need of a loving father, and gave my best. Any decent man would have done the same, it's not some kind of 'contest' to see who wins Astro's favor, for heaven's sake!
T: But he wouldn't be here without me...
O: ...and he wouldn't be here TODAY without me. But if you want to seek peace and real happiness in your life, you'd do well to not get caught in these silly games.

O: You have a very "reactive" personality. You respond to what happens to you. And your responses indicate you feel overwhelmed.

T: I resent the choice of word - 'overwhelmed.' I've found myself suddenly in extremely difficult situations, and had to do something...

O: Exactly my point. You have the opportunity now to restart. Reboot. Rebuild a structure for your life that is in balance, so you're not just working, to the exclusion of everything else.
Tenma looked confused.
T: You're going to have to clarify that for me.
O: Well first you need to make a list of what is important to have in your life. That might sound silly, but I'll bet you've never done anything like that, have you?
T: I don't need to write down some ridiculous list --
O: Oh yes, you most certainly do!
He brought up a new document, and handed Tenma his Ipad and pen.
O: Here, I'll get you started and you can send it to your mailbox to finish. Put down things you would love to do every day, if you could.
Tenma logged onto the pen so it would recognize his handwriting, and began his list

O'Shay: They were depressing, don't you think? How about something more cheerful?
Tenma rolled his eyes and sighed. "Because I won't even be able to play what I want to play?"
O'Shay: Well perhaps you could add a few to your repertoire.
Tenma: Fine, fine, whatever...
O'Shay: What's next... running every day, yes, that's a good one. And then write a diary. Is it the first time you are writing one?
Tenma: N... I mean yes.
