I was so confused about JOURNEY TO THE FAR SIDE OF THE SUN, because the title made me think it was what turned out to be a pilot, I believe it was called THE STRANGER.

THE GOLD RUSH very likely originated the gag of the very hungry guy looking at his friend, who, then morphs (in the vision of the hungry guy) into a chicken, or whatever food. 
Not only was Chaplin's friend hungry, starving, in fact, but he was very large.
