After nearly a year of starting and dropping 日本語, I've finally achieved memorization of all of the ひらがな alphabet. Now to move on to カタカナ.

I've been watching some of the japanese language Astro Episodes from the 60's and mostly just enjoying the video portion as these are NOT sub'ed. The audio isn't always the cleanest, however once in a while I do pick up a word or two that sounds familiar from some phrases I've heard in on line beginners language lessons. For example, Uran seems to address Atom as "Brother Atom" or "Atomu Ani" (アトム兄

ああ、どこに見ました？ DVD? Besides the less than perfect audio quality, what do you think of the acting? The higher voices possibly contribute to the difficulty with hearing, I'm not sure.

If the dialog was spoken slow enough so as not to be garbled the pitch wasn't a problem. Actually some of the deeper voices sound more like grunts to my ears. Even not understanding Japanese, one can still sometimes get a characters mood from the inflection in the voice, IE: Anger, surprise, etc.
In Uran's case the words Atomu and Ani were sometimes slurred together making it sound more like Atom muanic. Once I realized what she was actually saying I could pick out the actual dialog. I guess once you are fluent in a language your brain will 'autocorrect' someone's defective speech to make it sound right!

I wonder how the １９６３ 日本語鉄腕アトム (not sure how to say Japanese Tetsuwan Atomu) was recovered. I did hear that they were originally restored, which would explain the few lost episodes from the 日本語 version of the series. Was it recovered similarly to the アメリカ version?

I tried to write Black Jack in japanese on a frosty window on the school bus today, but I forgot how to write it. Go figure.

I felt embarrassed/hesitant to point it out for a while, because I felt maybe I didn't make the topic clear enough, but I'd like it if the thread returned to it's original topic of practicing Japanese. It's hard for those typing in Japanese to practice Japanese communicating skills if there's English replies instead of Japanese.
