Could have been better in some aspects - namely the cloned extras in the background/audience scenes reflecting the budget, Toby's death and personally I felt the movie was a bit rushed in some aspects - but you take what you get. I find myself hooked on it after watching it again. The first time around I didn't enjoy it as much but watching it again now years later it's grown on me in a way it didn't before.

Yes I enjoy this movie, maybe it's not the greatest to some but it's good enough for me.

Did anyone else notice how Hamegg's character was a clone of Fagin from Oliver Twist?

Man I remember going to see this in theaters.

It is really no different a thing than some film maker deciding to make a movie about any TV show that lives in people's fond memories of youth, and the film just overwrites and ruins those memories. Dudley Do-Right, and Bullwinkle come to mind as examples. I have not seen the George of the Jungle film, and have no intention to ever do so.

While the Tezuka Co. might have had some little input in it, it just is not Astroboy. It is no more Astroboy than those Bullwinkle and Dudley Do-Right films were Bullwinkle or Dudley Do-Right. The guy who made the cartoons had nothing to do with them. Likewise, an American made film about Astroboy would be no better than the 2003 series, and that failed to gain an audience in its U.S. release. It may have succeeded in Japan, but even given that it had the input of Americans, its conversion to the Saturday Morning Cartoon Ghetto (a term coined by Fred Patten) destroyed it. Patten explained the process in his book about manga /anime. So, the film had to be a watered down PC version that offended nobody, but, likewise appealed to few. It did not appeal to those who watched the B&W series or those few who watched the 1980s color version. It bombed. Even more so, in Japan than in the U.S. Apparently, the Chinese liked it.

For those for whom it was their fist exposure to Astroboy, I understand why some of them may have liked it. Just as those who grew up watching the 1980s version like that best. But, it really sucked! I am certain that I made my opinion about this turkey abundantly clear elsewhere.

The movie did have it's good points. For one, it got a LOT of people to discover this forum! (including me) It also woke up the memory of many 60's Astro fans. After seeing the movie, I started searching the internet and found that Hulu had BOTH the 1980 and 2003 Astro animes streaming. I didn't even know they existed at that time! It may have been a turkey, or a rotten tomato, but it did get many people to discover Osmau Tezuka and his other works.

the George of the Jungle movie is IMHO the only one to do it right. Though I was kinda fond of the Bullwinkle movie too.

I thought that Bullwinkle should have been a serial, with the traditional cliffhangers and Prof. Peabody etc. in between. BTW, I think some of the same talent that made Bullwinkle cartoons also made SUPERCHICKEN & GEORGE OF THE JUNGLE.
