Zoran, as I know it is the name used for Uran in the English dub of the 2003 Astro Boy series. I do not know of this name being used in any other dubs. In the Canadian dub the name Sarah is used for Uran. And of course in the 1963 original American dub for Uran (which is short for Uranium) she is given the name "Astro Girl".

It might interest you to know that according to the synopses provided by Mushi Pro. for translation and dubbing by Fred Ladd and Co. back in the
60s, her name was transcribed as "Oran." Hige Oyaji is alternately referred to as "Bearded Grandpa" as well as "Daddy Walrus". I don't recall seeing him being referred to as "Daddy Moustache", but he might have been. I'll have to pull out my early edition copies of the "Astro Boy Episode Guide" from The Right Stuf Inc. as the early editions had the original names provided by Mushi Pro. Hige Oyaji became known as "Mr. Pompous" only after Fred Ladd gave him that name which Dr. Tezuka always found amusing.

The above material must have used information for the series before Atlas became a synthesis of Cobalt (as Astro Boy's brother) and the Blue Knight (characteristics which the adult Atlas exhibited). Of course in Japan where Atlas was already part of the nine-part serial within a series, "Atom Vs. Atlas" Cobalt and the Blue Knight were not in evidence.--Astrobudddy

BTW, it seems Tezua used alot of "element" names for the robots. Atom (Astro), Uranium, (Uran), Cobalt (Kobaruto), and Titanium (Chi-Tan), There many have been others.. In one of my fan fiction stories, I created a 'son' for Uran, named Tetsu (iron), and a daughter Argon.

Yes, "Hige Oyaji" was also known as "Albert Duncan" and "Daddy Walrus" was given as a sort of nickname in the American dub of the 1980s series. In the same way Hige Oyaji's real name was given as "Shunsaku Ban" in the original Japanese manga and anime. In the 1980s Canadian dub he was known as (IIRC) Max McNugget and of course in the American dub of the 2003 anime, he was known as "Wally Kisagari".

Yes, you noticed correctly about Dr. Tezuka's play on words with his using a few elements associated with nuclear power for names of characters in the TetsuWan Atomu manga and anime

BTW Iron is the final fusion product in dying stars. Argon is a noble gas. Titanium is a metal that has one of the highest melting temperatures of any metalic element, it was used in the airframe of the SR-71 Blackbird. Cobalt is a somewhat uncommon material, and used in batteries for EV's (though they are trying to eliminate the need for it).

Are you sure you're not referring to the Canadian dub? Uran was called Uran in the US dub, though, from what I understand, the Canadian dub had more changes. Daddy Mustache was Daddy Walrus.

I haven't seen the 60s series, where he did appear, but I have read some of the manga. From what I've seen Cobalt doesn't do a great deal, though that might change in later issues.

He's talking about the 03 dub, as uran went under zoran in that dub, with ochanomizu/elefun going by O'shay

In the the 1980s U.S. dub it was Uran and Daddy Walrus.

This was clearly written when the show was in preproduction, but they reused it, this was sent to other markets that there NOT the US, ie australia and such, hence why the dub's logo and names are present
