 I have 15 tapes of the 60s series from The Right Stuff, unfortunately, they do not put the episodes in order of their release. I have the whole English version of the 80s color remake, and the first of the Darkhorse Manga books. After viewing/reading these, I have seen several stories other than the creation of Atom, that have taken different forms in the different releases.

There is one about a dehydrated planet that sends ships to earth to swipe massive quantities of water. It appears as the last story in the #1 Manga, as "Plant People", and "The Girl From Alsoar" in the color remake. There are the "Snow Lion" and Snow Leopard" in the 60s and 80s respectively, in which the beasts have energy absorption ability.

I find it interesting to see how they reuse an old plot and how they depict it in the newest version.

Hey, if it aint broke :P

But your right, it is interesting to see how the different versions look at similar storylines. However Astro isn't unique in this. It happens in just about every show/cartoon/comic that gets re-done.
I like it, so long as they only rehash the good stories ;)

I have read and taken notes from 1-10 manga, and have ordered 11-14. I am beginning work on my own Astroboy pages, and will include a cross reference to the reused plots. When I upload this, I will provide the url. any comments will be welcome.

I am awaiting the final three volumes of the manga, which will allow
me to complete my chart (except for the 60s series eps that I have
yet to see). I expect to go beyond the chart, and create pages for
each story, but that will take time. When I say story, I mean more
than just each story as found in the manga, but the relationships
between the media. For instance, "The Greatest Robot on Earth" was
first a manga, then was shown at least two of the three anime
series.
My page would deal with differences and similarities of these
incarnations. I expect to register my domain name after the Spring
semester, at which time I will publish my work.

I gotta ask. Who is that big guy getting ready to fight Astro in your banner?

Bruton/Pluto

He is the one that challenges the seven most-powerful robots to battle to the death. His story has been depicted in manga, the 80s, and the current series.

The Right Stuf has all the tapes:

Search page

As does amazon.com

Be sure you search for "astro boy" rather than 'astroboy'.

:D
