A balloon in the shape of Atom appears over the city. Children love Atom so much that they begin to run after the balloon and disappear. Because such incidents frequently occur, Atom comes to be regarded as a fearful enemy of children.

Schoolchildren are at the baech drawing or painting landscapes. When they see the balloon, they pursue it, only to find it is very unfriendly. Skunk will soon demand ransom for their release.

A key difference from the 80s version, in which the balloons explode:

Uranium, seeing the balloon, decides to attack: :D

This is merely the tail end of a very funny sequence with Cobalt running to Uranium's rescue. There are just too many images, & I am really trying not to post so many as to give away the whole story. :hyo:

As with the 80s version, Atom is suspected of foul play, & the police are out to get him.

Yet, Inspector Tawashi seems rather sad that Atom, rather than the balloons in his likeness was shot.

Care to guess what Uranium said to Dr. Ochanomizu that shocked him so? :D

Now we see whence comes the title. :d evil:

Here we have Skunk at his worst. He has received the ransom money, but decides to kill the children with a time-bomb that he hopes will also destroy Atom & his hide out.

Cobalt (Jetto) has already saved both Atom & the hostages, & now helps his younger brother freeze the balloons with dry ice.

It looks like Astro's dead, with everybody at the funeral home mourning around the body.

This is one episode that had made a huge impression on me (the 1980 version, that is, and this one seems even sadder). For years I remembered Astro over his desk in his bedroom, sad that robots couldn't cry.

Ok, this time, Imageshack hosts the images. However, I really feel bad about the number of them; so I might just remove about half of them. :astro:

Thanks for more information about Astroboy. Sounds like Skunk is a lowlife creep.

I love Skunk, I think he's Tezuka's creepiest villian, he's got such a serial murderer vibe going on with him, yet he's goofy at the same time.
Granted, the other bad guys are goofy, but they're over-the-top goofy.
Dirty ol' Mister Skunk is keep-the-door-locked goofy.

Edit:those kids in top picture look totally baked. Perhaps Skunk had someone pass out brownies? :P
