Well, it was always pronounced more like "ooh-ran", which is in turn closer to the Japanese pronounciation of Uranium. Atom and Uran(ium), working with Tezuka's atomic theme.

You know all this difficulty pronouncing Uran might've been a big part of the reason for changing it to Zoran.

Actually to get from Uran to Zoran you bring the vowel back one (a, e, i, o, u, so go back one vowel from u and you get o) and add 'z'.
