1980s character names

Postby Starlight » 13 years ago

Hello,

does anyone know the Japanese names of characters in the 1980s series?

I saw on a webpage somewhere that the schoolkids names were:

English name Japanese name

Mindy.........................Midori
Kenneth.....................Kenichi
Theodore/ Teddy.........Tamao
Astro.........................Atom
Alvin..........................?

I'm not sure what webpage that was on. It seems like the characters have similar-sounding English names to their Japanese names.

Since I haven't really watched all of the 80's version, I'm assuming that Alvin is supposed to be one of Astro's other classmates, Shibugaki.

You can find most of the Japanese names by doing a simple internet search really, even wikipedia has a couple.

Interestingly, in the hijacked airship episode for this particular series, we learn that Kenichi's last name is Tezuka. This was probably decided as an in-joke. A few scenes later, another of Astro's classmates gets mentioned: Osamu!

I think Osamu was translated into Sam in the 1980 US series.

Thanks for that. ^__^

F-Man: Do you have the 80s series in Japanese? I have the 80s series on DVD, but I only have 2 episodes in Japanese. The rest are in English.

Ironically enough, in the US it's the complete opposite. The complete first two episodes are missing, but except for that, the entire show can be watched in Japanese with subtitles. I haven't bought it yet just for that reason.

You know how in the first episode there's a female scientist named Miss Ford? Well in the Japanese version she was Miss Honda. LOL! There both cars!
You're not a joke, you fit right in!
So shake it off, and give a grin. Don't be afraid to stand your ground! Crazy, noisy BIZARRE Town!
