'Yo' might still be in use in Nigeria on a frequent casual basis, 'yo' in the United States might sound bizarre and dated but in other English-speaking nations it might be just be current and fitting for the character (it might not even have the same connotation as it did/does here). English, and languages for that matter are not static world-wide. There's a difference between ALL versions of English and French and Spanish and all other languages which are spoken in mass in different landmasses on our globe.

Of course this doesn't mean that this is the case, it could be that the writers had no idea what they were doing and were just trying to make him sound 'hip' and failed terribly - but this is just where my mind jumped to instead of reeling in contempt at the notion of Atom saying "yo". :T

I also had the same thought. It also seemed to me like that might just be filler "enthusiastic" dialog to test out a kid's voice for the auditions. Or it could also be for one scene where Astro must do a little dance (he does mention his "steps") and fails at it.

I dunno guys, I use 'yo' unironically all the time, and last time I checked, I'm not an aging hipster. :I Hopefully the slang won't be too ridiculous, though.
