I always liked the ELV version better than the Japanese in regards to the 2003 series for this reason and my perspective of Atlas. :)

I admit that the original Japanese version of the 1980s series is better and I like it better. I can't say with any true certainty though about the 1960s version though as I have only seen a handful of the original Japanese episodes, though I do love the ELVs as well. They are a joy! And I love Billie's voice for Atom.

I get what you're getting at, Earthsine. But I've always felt that Astro begging his father not to kill himself was still a form of forgiveness, just one that's not as direct as the dub. Regardless, I still feel that either way you still get the same outcome.

Oh definitely you're right! Just to me it seemed more strong in the ELV.

Oh no, I agree. His words to Tenma are really heartfelt in the dub version, I just feel they're a bit more powerful in the sub is all.

As for the major difference involving Atlas, I honestly like both variations. Having Atlas being a robot makes more sense from both a story and character stand point, but having him always be a replacement for Tokugawa's son also creates an interesting parallel between him and Astro, and creates a nice one between Tenma and Tokugawa as well.

Another reason why I love the 2003 ELV version of Astro Boy... Dr. Tenma's voice actor.

Ooh, I agree. He's so evil and sinister sounding, it's perfect!

It's also that sort of calm, cold calculating tone that just fits the character so well. I could listen to that actor all day.

I think Billie Lou Watt's voice for Atomu is pretty good too ;)

One of the reasons why I still watch the 1963 dub sometimes. That and the grownups' voices make me laugh. :D
I joined this forum in late 2013 when I was 15 going on 16. Ignore my oldest posts, they embarrass me so much that I've considered permanantly leaving the forum more than once. I've grown out of my fangirling phase over Black Jack, Atom and Uran ages ago but the memories still embarrass me at times... Though, I try to be more open-minded about it and accept it as an "interesting stage of my life". :tezuka:

 I like the english dub voice, but it kinda reminds me of one of those programs to hide your voice! I'm not that much of a western gal, though. I kinda like the Japanese dub voice a bit better cause it sounds original, and he sounds more desperate for Tobio.
