Astro Boy Reboot (Future Animated Series)

One theory I've had since seeing this newest poster is that Astro transports between the real world and the digital world (Divercity) in this series. Tenma allows him to transport between reality and Divercity with some sort of machine. Taking your theory into account, YJ_Doodle, I do think Tobio will only exist in this digital world (due to his death in the real world), along with the other characters portrayed around him in the poster. The characters that also exist in the real world (Skunk, Tawashi, Atlas) will have the ability to transport between the real world and Divercity as well. Fubuki, Akino, and the "HM35" robot only exist within Divercity.

Well I was actually thinking that all the consciousness of the civilians(The government, soldiers and main science department would stay for the war) had been transferred to the virtual world during the war, including Atom. Tenma also digitally created his deceased son into the computer as well(With all his old memories pre-accident). If this was a human/robot conflict going on in the real world then the robots might try to destroy Divercity by creating virus codes(which could include Atlas, maybe) and Atom's duty is to protect the city's programming by fighting the viruses with his friends. He goes back and forth between two worlds in secret. Considering that he wanted to be more like an ordinary boy in the reboot I guess he wouldn't like doing this that much.

Anyhow, if the war in reality ends, the government could claim that there's no need for the digital world anymore. The humans and Atom reclaim their original bodies in the real world for good, other factors(Including Tobio and robots made in Divercity like HM35) are deleted. Tenma expected this to happen and tries to make Atom his actual son(hence why he was modeled after Tobio). That could make an interesting conflict for Atom, especially if his adopted family and friends are all programmed instead of being actual people.

Oh WOW, this theory got really big. Even if it's probably not accurate I think it would still be pretty cool for a fanfiction idea XD

If the folks over at Shibuya productions are reading our posts, they must be laughing at our theories here.

It looks to me like the city exists under some kind of geodesic dome (the crosshatching seen in the "sky"). Maybe it's a protected "island" in the middle of a world made toxic by war.

It looks to me like the city exists under some kind of geodesic dome (the crosshatching seen in the "sky"). Maybe it's a protected "island" in the middle of a world made toxic by war.

Nah, but look at the trailer: all those digital wireframes, and all that glitching stuff as everything "loads up"... Of course, it's not impossible that that was an aesthetic choice. But I'm not completely sure of that.

Some of these theories seem rather heavy... but also plausible. Hm.

Also, someone on Tumblr looked at the name on the robot and found out that it spells (albeit in an abstract way) "James", apparently.

Well just before Astro take's off there's the digital glowing lines in his feet, and in his eyes I think I see something like the scrolling Kanji characters from "the Matrix" computers. At first I thought that was only because he's a robot, but .....

I thought that the pixelation in the trailer was Astro booting up or something. I don't think the weird sky means it's a virtual world, because that would blur the lines between humans and robots a little too much for Astro Boy. There has to be some conflict left, and it has to be at a level that kids can understand. I think the lines in the sky might be a dome like Penguin said. Maybe they control the weather? The city seems to be a pretty artificial environment already, with super tall buildings and little open space.

Well I was thinking that the city was a artificial haven for human civilians who didn't want to get involved in the robot/human war going on. The few robots there are all programmed beings that exist only in the virtual world, besides Atom.

Another thing. The person most prominent in that poster (besides Astro) is Tenma. Almost like he's the mastermind behind the entire city of something. I think the policeman might be Tawashi, or maybe that character is a fusion of Tawashi and Nakamura.
