That idea is similar to the very first Astro fan fiction I wrote where the boy that Atom was created to replace wasn't dead, but in a coma from which he eventually recovered, and the two of them then interacted as brothers.

Another possibility would be a back and forth 'flash back' where the story jumps between before and after Astro's creation.

Finally, maybe Tobio had a brother that died and Astro was his replacement. (The Tenma 'twins'?)

I'm feeling a LOOOOOT of stuff right now.

Clearly the ginger girl with the flower, and the scientist woman in some kind of green orb, are new characters and I'm glad they're adding more (likely) positive female characters to the cast. That is so definitely Tobio, and I really hope he, Tenma, and Astro all interact with each other in the show. I don't know how to feel about Tenma's new design, but he is kinda cute.

Though...is that actually Skunk? I mean, I'm glad to see him in a series again, but he definitely let himself go.

(When does this series come out now, 2018? 2031?)

I'm thinking so. The dirty blond hair color, pale skin color, and hair length make me think of Skunk from the 1980 series:

Remember the summaries on Caribara's and Shibuya's websites for the series, mentioning something about a human family? It's not impossible that that woman is his "mom", so to speak. And "Tobio" is either one of his reported human friends, or a sibling.

Btw, is there any report on what exactly was talked about when this was shown? Any news, like broadcasting partners and such?

What puts me off are the glasses on Tenma. Yeah he DID have those "Rock" like sunglasses in the 2003 anime, but these look like 'coke bottle' 'nerd' glasses! And is that a 'beret' hat on his head? Speaking of which, I wonder if they will sneak any Tezuka or Hyotantsugi cameo's in there.

I think you're right about the hair. I have a theory about the glasses then, maybe in all of his other appearances, Tenma was wearing contact lenses.

Really, I have this canon theory about Nerds. Your average Nerd is very myopic and wears thick glasses and is very introverted. HOWEVER, the "Uber Nerd" that puts the average Nerd to shame, is a stealth Nerd. He looks like an ordinary person and fits in, unlike the classic nerd. He doesn't wear glasses, and isn't introverted. Except for his workaholic ways, I think of Tenma as the Uber Nerd.

Hm, come to think of it, he wore glasses in Pluto... but I'm not sure that counts. Also, those could easily be goggles, or some other such form of protective eye wear.

Although upon a second look, those just look like shades of some kind. They're reflecting the light dramatically (par for the course in anime, you know), so you that you can't clearly see his eyes.

At least not in this picture; who knows what the thing looks like in person...
