Amazon stores tend to calculate their prices based on rarity, and since this book has been delayed forever and no seller actually has it, their system sees it as extremely rare and adjusts the price accordingly.

This'll be good for newcomers but since I've already almost collected all of the original volumes, I'm not sure I'm going to jump on this unless there's new stuff in this.

I just came across this today and couldn't believe my eyes. How do you sell 688 pages of manga for under $20?

Oioioi, I heard about this ages ago. I only have the first two volumes that were smushed together into single book. While I can read all of it practically whenever I want to, I've been wanting tangible copies for ages now; there isn't anything quite like the real-life thing! Especially since I like to lay in bed to read sometimes; can't do that on a laptop, ho ho!

(Well, I mean, I probably could. But I don't want to. Things are just not set up to where that would be fruitful at all.)

Dark Horse's website and a few other sources are now listing the release date for Omnibus Volume 1 as September 23, 2015, which is 13 days earlier than initially reported.

Also, the final page amount is listed as 688 pages, with the size being 4 1/2 x 6 1/2 inches, and the format being paperback and in black and white.

Doesn't seem any larger size than the existing release. From the page count this will probably be the contents of DH #1 and #2.

Wait, does that mean that it's only as big as the volume I already have??

Basically. The original Dark Horse Astro Boy manga is 4 1/2 x 6 3/4 inches.

The only difference I can find between the omnibus and the original DH release is that there's 264 more pages and that there's "rare and out-of-print material" as the original press release by Dark Horse said. I assume the extra pages will include Volume 3 and that rare and out-of-print material.

The old Astro Boy release is out of print. I would say that in itself is probably the rare and out-of-print material they refer to.

Volume 3 is the Greatest Robot in the World story arc. You almost never see it on eBay. Volumes 1,2, 4 and up are easy to find. If the page count is the same as volumes 1-3 then we have our answer.
