I thought this was a really fun battle and I wouldn't have minded who one. Glad it was Astro though
I had seen the Fatal Fiction version of Megaman vs Astro Boy ages ago but didn't care for it cuz there seemed to be a bias towards Megaman. Screwattack laid out all the facts as they were. They made good points for both sides.
That Screwattack thread for this episode was really...something. I can't believe it had to be locked for awhile.

I totally agree. I enjoyed it too and was thrilled to see Astro won. I mean, I grew up on Mega Man games, but you know who I was rooting for. Though I see the Mega Man fans don't seem happy...
Fatal Fiction was the one that had the weaker 2003 Astro but gave Mega Man every weapon he's ever had plus Rush and Protoman's shield, right? Yeah, there was definitely a some bias going on

Why does everyone say the 2003 Astro is the weakest of the three anime incarnations? He has more weapons than in the other two, including the arm cannon that can blast the top of a mountain off! If anything I think he's the strongest!

He has the cool arm cannon but I don't think he's as physically strong as the other versions. 60s Astro could punch sharks into pieces with one swing, 80s Astro could plow through giant robots like they were made of tissue, but 2003 Astro never seemed as strong. If he is, he's holding back a lot more. Which actually could be very possible.

It may be that since the 2003 series was originally intended to be produced for the American market as well they toned down the violence a bit, making Astro appear to hold back a bit. I do think he ran out of energy less often in the 2003 series than in the other two.
Of course, the entire idea of a death battle between those two is crazy. Astro wouldn't destroy Atlas, and he and Megaman are more on the same side than he and Atlas are. It would take an evil genius to force those two into battle against each other, and even if that happened, they'd fake it until they could figure out a way to destroy their enemy.
Oh, and that that video actually based Astro on a hybrid between all FOUR versions of him, the three animes and the the movie. (Those pixelated images SUCK! Video games haven't looked like that for over twenty years!)

My immediate thought was that it was to make the things that happened to Astro more challenging. That Over powered heroes aren't as popular as they were in the 50s and 60s. Hence why recent versions of Superman tone down his strength too. But your thought could be right too.
Technically, no. You could say that about ever super hero pitted against each other like this. Superman wouldn't kill Goku either (at least he would try his hardest to avoid it) But Death Battle isn't about that.

Glad Astro won for once! It's not that I don't like Mega Man, though. But I don't think they would fight either. It just seems wrong, with both of them being heroes with good dispositions.
Yeah, and I think they made Astro weaker by using the second episode. They were kinda criticizing him for having trouble from lifting that space station 'on the moon' as they said, even though it stated that it was one of Mars moons anyway and there was a huge gravitational pull coming from the crater.
