Not official.

I found the online distributor for French-speaking countries, and surprisingly it includes Canada. https://www.wakanim.tv/

Each new episode is free for 7 days.

Atom -> A to mu -> A 十 六 -> A 10 6 -> A106 .

. . I found that in a discussion forum but I couldn't really understand as to why 'to' and 'mu' become '十' and '六'

Good eye on their part! Very interesting, and something I didn't realize before!

After searching on Google, I found out that Japanese has different numbering systems based on what you're referring to. While most of us are familiar with the Sino-Japanese numbering system, there's also a Native Japanese numbering system. According to the sites linked, Sino-Japanese numbers are used in combination with counter words when counting things, actions and events, while the Native Japanese numbering system is used to count objects (I'm guessing these numbers are used on their own).

So, the number 10 in the Native Japanese numbering system is 十 (tō ;) , while the number 6 is 六つ (muttsu), so for A106's name, it looks like they shortened "muttsu" to "mu".

Character names in manga and anime are often wordplay and/or puns based on the Japanese language. A106's name is another case of that.

Here's links to see the different Japanese numbering systems:

Spoiler for episode 2 (but doesn't really spoil anything cause it's just a character I noticed) ...

click for spoilerDo you think Professor Saruta is the same guy as Professor Moss from the '80s Astro Fight Aliens episode? They both seem to be high ranking science guys.

Dr Elefun refers to him as "Professor Moss", in Japanese he says "Mosa Hakase" so it's the right translation. The Chinese version (bootleg?) renders it as Dr Morse. Still, that's different to Saruta so I don't know if it's the same guy or Tezuka's Star System character recycling.

Dunno. But in 2003 version, we know there's also a professor called Saruta too. And I think this Saruta looks similar to Dr. Honma Jotaro in Black Jack with that warts on his big round nose.

This guy was the director of the space program when Atom was made the commander of the mission to Mars. I have both the names 'Moss' & one other that I cannot recall, for him.

Atom: The Beginning will be taking off next week for a mid-series break. The next episode will air on June 3rd at 11 AM Japan Standard Time as opposed to 11 PM Japan Standard Time, so it'll now be airing on Friday nights for those of us in the Western Hemisphere.
