The DVD volume label was ASTRO_BOY_II_27_30_SCN, so it does appear they started from episode 27. I'd have to dig through my physical discs for more details but they're boxed up at the moment for renovations.

To compare episode 27, here's a bit from Pushmipullu's sub:

and this is the one I have:

It's actually fairly readable despite the clumsy grammar, but for some reason the names are radically different. Ochanomizu is Verchashu, Yuko is Xee, Skunk is Sikak, Momo is Doti. I wonder if it's been machine translated to Chinese then to English, like that funny Phantom Menace translation that kept referring to the Jedi Council as the Presbyterian Church.

I went back and edited the link. It should lead to the corrected episode 27 file now.

Episodes 25 and 26 should be fixed now.

Sorry if I'm asking a question with an obvious answer, but what am I supposed to do with .ass files?

It goes in the same folder as the video file. So you might have something like this:

Video.avi
Video.ass

When you play the avi file, MPC or VLC (and maybe other video players too) will detect the subtitle file and display it.

Episode 28 is ready.
