I have never seen that cartoon before, but the artwork looks like Da Vinci sometimes.

I have heard of that one before.

I have also seen a mail box around here with a Beatles yellow submarine design. They must be hardcore Beatles fans! :D

I absolutely LOVE Yellow Submarine. It's such a psychedelic Fantasia, with a solid story that isn't afraid to give way to nonsense at the drop of a hat. Great music, wonderful animation, a solid win in my book and definitely a champion for the "Cartoons aren't automatically exclusively for kids" movement.
Baby, don't let it slip, it's a once in a lifetime ship and it's never gonna come again...

I said anime counts in the last post I made...
I think Adventure Time is definitely one of the best cartoons on right now (though I haven't really been keeping up on it lately). I like the depth the writers go into and the issues they deal with, but sometimes the episodes get too "wierd" for me. Take the new lemon hope episode for example. It felt like the writers were trying to make it TOO deep and surreal, and it looked like they were just on drugs or something. I liked the ending and the parts with the old guy, but the rest just felt...odd... Like Lemongrab eating the other lemons when they made him mad. That's cannibalism! It's not like the candy people eating candy because it's not alive. That's pretty much like people eating fish. It's flesh, but it's not living people flesh. The lemons on the other hand are alive and of the same species. That's like a person eating a person.

I think they go a bit too far with some things (especially now that Rebecca Sugar isn't working on it as much if at all). Even though the rating is pg it's still on a channel where kids can watch it, and I don't think kids should be watching that kind of stuff. I love the episodes with Marcelene and the Ice King because it feels genuine and doesn't go overboard. There are a lot of episodes I love, but also quite a few I don't like.

Sorry for the long rant :p

There are a lot of shows on cartoon network that aren't considered child friendly. Take regular show for ex. It is rated pg, but contains some material that kids should'nt be watching.

I kinda think those kinds of shows should be shown on adult swim, cause a lot of older teens and adults like that stuff.

I don't think they're "bad" enough to be on adult swim. I do agree they need to tone things down just a tad. I don't mind violence an such but cannibalism and stuff like that are just too much. Now that I think about it though, they're nowhere near as bad as what children/ teen entertainment used to be like. (Take fairy tails for example). At least they gave them proper ratings...

Anywho, Steven Universe has really grown on me. (It's made by Rebecca Sugar who previously worked on Adventure Time). I feel like it gets better with every episode. The characters are fun, the animation is very bright (you can see some anime influence in it), and the music is great. Not to mention it does get sad/ deep at times, but it doesn't go oberboard with it (*cough* AT *cough*). The only problem I have is that the episodes are a little too short for the emotion it tries to add.

I'm not sure if CN has anything in its programming at the moment that I would call unsuitable for children during its daytime broadcast... then again this sort of thing is relative to the person watching it. What I consider to be perfectly fine for kids to see others will NOT and will demand that it's unsuitable. This is where we get heavily edited anime.

This goes for everyone who exists, and this is why we have ratings. The tv rating PG literally tells parents that they might need to be present to explain some things to their young child that may be confusing or scary. PG literally means that the program is for mature children of about 10 and older.

And you're right Sopika! Remember Ren and Stimpy... that one was an abomination not suitable for kids at all.

I still have not seen Steven Universe at all, the previews that I saw just looked weird for me and strange... (fingers as cats? what?) So I have not seen it at all. Is it as random and strange as all the previews make it seem?

I've never liked Ren and Stimpy. Bleh!

If I remember correctly the finger cats episode was a reference to the anime Akira. I've never actually seen it, but I'm pretty sure the creator is a fan of anime so it would make sense. It was a little strange I'll admit.

It is random and silly at times, but it's no where near the randomness/stupidity of some shows (like Ren and Stimpy and Regular Show). I think it gets some of its charm from the silliness. Some things tend to make more sense in context than out of it. Like the cat fingers for example. The main four are magic entities that can shape shift, so Steven decides to try it out. He's never done it before so he is only able to shape shift his fingers, and it ends up getting out of control. (It still sounds kinda wierd now that I'm typing it out :p )
I'd say it's as silly as the better episodes of Adventure Time like the gender bent episodes (which Rebecca wrote), but it gets a bit serious sort of like the Marceline and Ice King episodes (which she also wrote). If you aren't too familiar with those you could also compare it to the Powerpuff Girls where a lot of it was pretty silly, but it wasn't overkill. There are some songs in it (again think Adventure Time), but they're not like big musical numbers. It's mostly just Steven (he sings a little jingle on the way to get some pizza, etc).
In terms of humor, the creator stated "It doesn't have to be cruel to be funny", so there isn't like immense amounts of toilet humor and what not. (Which I love because toilet humor is one of the worst forms of humor I can think of).

It definitely gets better as you go along (though my least favorite episode is "Frybo". It got pretty strange...) I'd say whether or not you enjoy the silliness and humor is just a matter of personal preference. I personally think it's pretty cute.

I also am not fond of toilet humor or 'shock' humor or humor that is cruel, which puts Ren and Stimpy off my list as well as Family Guy. As for random, silly high-energy humor like what you're describing Steven Universe being it's iffy. There are some thing that are like that in which I DO enjoy, and others that I don't. For example I loved Ed, Edd and Eddy but just could not get into Animaniacs. Just really depends.

It really just depends...

I'll see if I can catch an episode or two when its on, give it a try. The fingers as cats thing was really really odd to me in the preview, but hearing explained as almost a parody then in makes sense.
