The Sakura Con thread reminded me of one recent-ish anime that I liked (since we ARE counting anime); Casshern Sins.

It's a revamp of the classic Neo Human Casshern/Casshan series that was made in the 1970s, though liberties were taken with the plot and the writers changed A LOT. It's also from the same 'world' as the movie Robot Hunter Casshan made in the early 1990s that some of you might remember.

I wasn't thrilled with the original series or the 1990s movie; but the 2008 anime was just... stunning. Both visually (animation quality was top-notch and the STYLE was unique but not 'meh' or just weird) and plot-wise. Funimation dubbed it in 2010 and did a splendid job!

The plot is really depressing and the anime is depressing, so if you like happy stories or happy endings... do not see this anime. If you liked animes such as Berserk or Phoenix or maybe Fullmetal Alchemist then this anime might please you.

A couple warnings besides it being depressing; it has a lot of robot on robot violence, nothing very detailed sexually or anything like that but still a lot of violence. This anime is rated M but not for sex or nudity, but for robots literally being teared apart.

The ending is terrible... really really REALLY terrible. The producers or something decided to just end it really quick so the entire main plot was just chucked aside and the writers were scrambling to write an ending that might make sense, but they failed miserably at it.

Even with all its faults, and its depressing nature and violent robot battles it was a unique and great anime. It's one of maybe three recent animes (from the last 10 years or so) that I enjoy.

As far as hilarity goes, anything TEX AVERY made is at the top of my list. As far as newer animated cartoons go, SUPERJAIL is my favorite. It is extremely violent, & the victims are dispatched in what some people, myself included, consider very funny ways. For that matter, JAILBOT is my #1 robot.

Oh man I saw an episode of Superjail and it was tough to watch, but my brother thought it was hilarious.

Never heard of it, and I don't want to. (I don't like adult or teeny bopper western shows much anymore.)

So, anyone of you teens like me, used to watch Jimmy Neutron when you were a kid? (Remember dat show?) My brother used to be obsessed with that show when he was little.

(Please don't tell me that I am the only one here who used to watch it as a kid.)

The only thing I still watch of it now, is the movie. In fact, I have it on DVD somewhere around here. (To think, that Candi Milo (Voice actress of Astro in the 2003 ENG version of the series, btw.) is the voice of a few characters like Nick Blue, for ex. In dat show. )

I used to watch Jimmy Neutron! The animation is hard to look at now though.

Yeah, no kidding. The animation is pretty bad now, but that's probably because it was made in like 2000 or something like that. And now, animation is way better looking now. :D

Glad I'm not the only one who used to watch that show as a kid.

Agreed! :D

My brothers and I used to watch that show a lot as kids. I wonder what happend to the video tapes we recorded back when they were on Nickelodeon? And that PC game of Jimmy Neutron, which we got like years ago back when I was about 5.

I feel like playing the PC game right now, but it got lost somewhere while moving. I think it's hiding somewhere in storage. Ah, sweet, sweet Memories. Where have you gone?

As an Asian child, I grew up watching anime.

But I liked Snoopy, Adventures of Tintin, and classic Disney animations a lot! I still do.

I still like Charlie Brown cartoons. They're so cute and innocent :)
