The word "slang" is slang for "shortened language".

I learned this just now and my mind is still blown.

"Ain't ain't in the dictionary."

Actually it IS, but is marked as Nonstandard

Definition of ain't
1: am not : are not : is not
2: have not : has not
3: do not : does not : did not

Although widely disapproved as nonstandard and more common in the habitual speech of the less educated, ain't in senses 1 and 2 is flourishing in American English. It is used in both speech and writing to catch attention and to gain emphasis

If my fiance had an account they probably would have made a 5,000 word + post defending the usage of "ain't". They have a BA in linguistics. It IS a word, it follows rules and guidelines, is widely used, and is not a word just for the 'uneducated'.

What isn't proper today is tomorrow's norm, that's a basic rule of linguistics :p Otherwise we would still talk Latin, or Indo-European, or Caveman borborygmus :D
The real sign that someone has become a fanatic is that he completely loses his sense of humor about some important facet of his life. When humor goes, it means he's lost his perspective.

On the Astro Boy Online Forums, whenever you go to a sub-forum and click on the number of replies in a thread, you'll get a pop-up that tells you how many times a specific member has posted in that thread. For instance, in our all-time most popular thread, the "Caption the Picture game" thread, here are the members who have posted in that thread the most:

Interesting bit of forum feedback.
The "count with images" thread seems to have died. AstroForever and you have given up on it, and cybotron rarely chimes in anymore. I was the only other major contributor according to the "Who Posted"

To be honest, it was a conscious decision of mine to stop posting in that thread.

I have nothing against the "Count With Images" thread, but I felt like I was wasting my posts in there by only posting images and not posting any substantial text along with it. I guess I have it ingrained into me from the other forum I'm on that a post is more meaningful if you actually present a fully-developed thought in your post rather than just "oh hey, here's an image". At the time I stopped posting in that thread, I believe I had something like 1,200 to 1,400 posts, and 405 of my posts are in that thread. That's a pretty good chunk. Even now, my posts in the "Count With Images" thread makes up about 1/6th of my posts overall.

This isn't to put down anyone who does post like that in the game threads, but I personally like to present thoughts or ideas in my posts before I make them. Sometimes, a short one-sentence liner is all I need, but as long as I thought it through, I feel like I made a good post.

Just my two cents.
