Did you know that the NES zapper only works on CRT screens? It's the only reason I keep an old 28" tv around. Gotta have duck hunt!

Filling your icecube tray with warm water will freeze faster than if you filled it with cold water. It's something called the Mpemba Effect.

Interesting. I wonder what Iceland's choice of weapon is then? I know you pay about $5 for a corner store coffee there, maybe guns cost too much? :p

The oldest hotel in the world is the Nishiyama Onsen Keiunkan in Japan. It was founded in 705 AD and has been operated by the same family for 52 generations. Samurai used to visit the hotel in its old days.

Only one other company in the world has lasted longer than Nishiyama Onsen Keiunkan: a construction company also from Japan called Kongo Gumi. It was founded in 578 AD.

There is a short documentary of the family who runs the second or third oldest hotel in the world, Houshi Ryokan, on Vimeo which you can watch in the link below. It was once thought to be the oldest hotel in the world until Nishiyama Onsen Keiunkan was discovered to be a few years older (Houshi Ryokan was founded in 718 AD). Houshi Ryokan has been run for 46 generations from the same family.

If I ever make it to Japan, I'll put that on my list of things to see and do.
