Looks like Young Black Jack will feature some more guest Tezuka characters in future episodes from Alabaster, Midnight, and Rainbow Parakeet.

OMG. Just saw last weeks Young Black Jack. When one of the doctors said he never found out the name of the medic I suddenly realized who he had to be. Dr. Kiriko! (Yeah, I guessed right!) Incredible how they are weaving this story together!

Actually in all fairness they DID give that away in the flipping cards, but I never noticed that until the end of this episode.

I thought they tied in Dr. Kiriko pretty well. Didn't think I'd like him at first, but he ended up being a pretty cool character. Overall, the three Vietnam episodes were really good.

The current story arc is pretty good as well. I like how they're bringing in historical events from the 1960s and 1970s into the storyline (which I'm aware happened in the BJ manga). I still like the '90s OVA of Black Jack the most, but Young Black Jack is now a close second. They've done a really good job with this series so far.

Just saw the latest episode. I did not see the end coming. Rainbow Parakeet? Just how many more of Tezuka's characters will appear in this story? Looks like the next episode will have Dororo and Hyakkimaru in it. From the flipping cards I see that Tawashi and Mustachio are also going to be in this eventually. It's also in the cards that Sapphire will make an appearance eventually!

I wonder, the corruption in Japan's medical community that this latest episode dealt with. Was it real, and was this the REAL reason that Tezuka Osmau abandoned his medical career to draw Manga?

Also the mechanic that tampered with the car, he had a large round nose and appeared to be wearing a beret.... Just saying, I expected them to stick Tezuka in this someplace, but as a doctor.

Also it appears that Lamp is back in the next episode.

After researching it, it appears like there might be some corruption in Japan's medical community, and Tezuka was displeased with it. There might be at least some truth to what you're talking about.

Here's a good article about Black Jack, Tezuka and his relationship with the medical community in Japan:

http://www.theguardian.com/science/blog/2010/jul/21/medical-manga-osamu-tezuka

By the way, his name is "Osamu", not "Osmau".

EDIT: I've also got to point out how good Episodes 9-11 are. Great story arc and probably my personal favorite part of this series. It was interesting seeing cameos by Shunsaku Ban and Tawashi as well.

Next is the twelfth and final episode, which features Sapphire. It's already available to premium Crunchyroll members, but everyone else has to wait until December 26 to see it (except for the Mountain Time Zone and all time zones to the west of UTC-7 to the International Date Line, when it should come out on Christmas Day). Can't wait to see it, but it's going to be sad to finish this series. Young Black Jack is a very well done series, despite how short it is.

Reason: Correction on the date in the last paragraph.

That's what happens when I type too fast :w00t:

So it seems that YBJ and Peeking Life were both made to 12 episodes. Wonder if there will be a second 'season' or if the possible story arcs are finished.

Finally got around to watching Episode 12. It's a very strong finale to an excellent anime. Eri Imagami is a great homage to Sapphire, especially in their respective character traits.

I liked the historical aspect of this series looking back in time during a period of political and social unrest. I assume the author of Young Black Jack wanted to set it in that time period to keep the continuity correct from the original manga, which is very respectable.

Overall I enjoyed this anime and will admit that it was much better than I thought it would be, especially towards the end. It's one of the better anime that I've watched in recent years.

EDIT: I should also mention that the entirety of Young Black Jack is available to everyone now on Crunchyroll. If you haven't watched it yet, now would be a good time to do so. I highly recommend this series.
