Roller coasters?

Postby Shiyonasan » 8 years ago

I'm just curious to see how many brave folks we have here on ABO.

Whenever you go to an amusement park or carnival, do you like to ride the high-intensity rides such as roller coasters, tower drops, slingshot rides, or something similar? If you're an older member, did you like to ride them in your youth?

For me, I like to keep my feet planted firmly on the ground. :D I tend to do better with water rides, but I still dislike water rides where there's a big drop. If I go to an amusement park, I prefer to go on the calmer rides. I personally like the idea of not getting a heart attack. :p

I've never really had too many chances to go to an amusement park but I do like roller coasters and those rides that spin you upside down. I don't care for tower drops or anything like that tho. I hate how queasy they make me. That's why I usually close my eyes during the first drop of a roller coaster.

To be perfectly honest I used to be a total wuss as a kid. It was only when I left my teenage years I got into high intentisty rides. I don't get too many chances to ride any though, as we don't have any theme parks here and the town fair only has a small selection.

Most of the coaster type rides at Disney parks bank the track steeply during any major drop. This turns the negative G force into a positive one, which is more easily tolerated.

I'll go on roller coasters, but I don't like going upside down, water, or drops that are vertical or curve inward. Height and speed are fine though.

I like to go on coasters that spit you out into a "buy your photo" area, find where the camera is, and make faces at it as I go by. Not sure if it helps or hinders business, but whatever.

This is one roller coaster I've sworn never to ride: https://www.cedarpoint.com/rides/roller-coasters/top-thrill-dragster
The thing is EVIL. I saw this on TV as part of a scariest coasters show. They said that if the wind is just right, the coaster will stop at the top and roll backwards to the beginning again.

There is a wooden coaster at kings island in Cincinnati that has two parallel tracks so twin coaster trains can race each other. On one of the trains you sit facing backwards!

As a general rule, if there's a sign saying you have to take your earrings out, I'm not getting on!

Like Rejoyce stated, I can do speed and height, but I cannot do big drops or water. But I do like slow to medium flumes. I also cannot stand to go upside down, makes me feel like I am going to pass out. This has to be my favorite ride:
