Hurricane Irma

Hurricane Irma is slowly approaching South Florida.
So far, we've been only getting bands of rain and wind gusts of about 35 mph or so. The real bad stuff should be coming in overnight and into tomorrow. I'm not sure how long we're going to be in this, but probably by sometime on Monday it should be all over. I'm on the east side of the state in the Fort Lauderdale area, far enough inland to not have to worry about the storm surge (hopefully!), but we will see lots of rain, and wind of at least Cat 1-2 force wind. The eye wall of the storm is predicted to remain to our west. I hope our house doesn't get too much damage, but I doubt the trees in the front and back yard will be ok.

Hope you get through this hurricane okay! I've also got a couple family members in Florida, so I'm keeping an eye on where it's going.

Forecast update seems to indicate that we might not see sustained winds of hurricane force, but will see gusts to that level. The eye wall is predicted to remain on the west side of the state, which would keep the most dangerous winds that far away.
There is now a tornado warning north of us.

I hope everyone in the state is safe during Hurricane Irma. Take care, Tetsuwan Penguin. :)

Lost power this morning, now on our backup generator. Winds picking up to near hurricane force gusts. Lots of rain and a tornado watch.

Edit: Two trees have extreme damage and will likely not make it.

Edit: Irma is now a bit north of us, and we are no longer on the dirty quadrant of the storm. Hopefully no more tornado warnings. It should be downhill from here, but not all clear until tomorrow afternoon.

Our power JUST came back on!
Still quite a mess to clean up (tree debris) but no structure damage.

I hope recovery is quick and without complication. My mom's friends & my brother-in-law's mom live in Florida.

We got our power back rather quickly, by now half of the power has been restored. Where does your family live down here? The Keys and the south west coast got the worst. Here on the east coast it was bad, but not destructive to well built structures.

Japanese Pod word of the day today was ハリケーン (hurricane).

My uncle refused to leave but was ok in the end. Still has no power.
