Hope they release something to celebrate the date, rather than making viewers to pay for watching the 1963 japanese version.

Whoa there. If we're still talking about Anime Sols, Mushi Productions needs to join that site first. Who knows when that'll be. And if they would offer Astro Boy straight away or would start with shorter series first. Tezuka Productions is on board, but Mushi isn't (yet).

But as far as paying for the 1963 series to be subbed and released on DVD, I'm of the opposite opinion and believe very few things in my life deserve my money as much as this.

If they would agree to allowing the series to be streamed on line (perhaps with advertisement kickbacks) the Viki anime site allows volunteers to edit subtitles like Wikipedia allows users to edit content. That's another way to get the job done.

I think they're going to broadcast 10 episodes remastered in HD in Japan: http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&js=n&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fami-geki.com%2Fichioshi%2Fnext%2F%23c

I hope they bring out the series on Blu-ray Disc soon.

Yeah it'd be about time.

Makes me glad I have a Region 1 PS3. If it does release on Blu-Ray, I am importing it as soon as possible. All I would have to do then is to upgrade my laptop to handle Blu-Ray to finally see the Japanese show in English subs.

Especially hoping for a 2003 Japanese Blu-Ray release as well. That would be another instant buy.

I see they are talking about the original series in that link. Also Google's translator is funny, "Insect production"? Yes I know that is literal since Tezuka used the symbol for 'insect' in his name since he was interested in entomology as a kid. Computers are "Idiot Savants" in areas like this, I know they meant "Mushi".

I'm glad that they are doing this. Even if they are charging for viewing it's worth it!

I was hoping for a movie or something though, I really hope that one day they will turn Pluto into an animation.

That is supposed to be in the works.
