I remember reading somewhere (I think in a note in one of the last DH volumes) that, when the series was first compiled, it was done in chronological order, but was canceled midway through, and Tezuka was annoyed that some of his favorite stories weren't printed; so when new compilations were made, he put his favorite ones in first, instead of where they would chronologically go, the exception being Atom's origin.

And that origin story was actually drawn in 1975 to go along with that compilation. Astro's original origin story is in Ambassador Atom which is included in volume 15.

Do you mean the order of the stories; DH does not reprint them in their chronological order, except the Elementary school stories in vol. 23.

Read jmb's reply. Dark Horse had nothing to do with it since they just translated the most complete Japanese edition like it's been said already.

Alright, but it's still confusing to follow.

It really is better to read in chronological order if you already know you're going to read all of it though. That's what I did personally. I had to make my own ordered list by checking the dates at the beginning of each chapter, but Tezuka in English has the order nowadays.

I would like to see them in the correct order, since I'm not familiar with the 1963 series anime since the japanese version have a country block.

So, I can't guess everything which was reprinted.

Anyway, I'll check the dates and information about each chapters.

Also, I noticed some of their mirroring went bad in some backgrounds like displaying inverted words, lol

They did the same thing with STAR TREK & THE TWILIGHT ZONE, but in those cases, I believe they put weak stories on the same DVDs as popular ones. In the case of TREK, there is or was a website that had an episode guide based on the faulty numbering of that 1st DVD release; though I believe the episode numbers were on the cases, they were not so prominent as the vol #s for the cases themselves; thus, the confusion.

Though the stories were not quite as related as those in some series, such as the 2003 MIGHTY ATOM, newly added regular characters, & such made the mixing seem strange. Of course, TTZ suffered from no such problems, as its stories were completely independent, but the 'feel' of the 4th & 5th seasons was very much different than the 1st 3. Thus the mixing seemed odd, here, also.
