 I just skimmed over the list, w/o bothering to read why these characters merited inclusion on it. Maybe I will give it a 2nd viewing later.

I have never been more enthralled to see Astro, Lupin, Spike Spiegel, and Shinji Ikari in the same place together.

Who didn't deserve to make the list....

Number 25: since the artist was a devout member of the Aum cult which gased the Tokyo subway system in 1995. Evangelion was inspired by Aum teachings.

Number 21: Dragon ball is about as important a series to anime as an appendix is to the human body.

Number 10: Same reason as 25.

Number 1: same as number 21.

So who should have been in their place?

Number 1: Tetsuwan Atom

Number 10: Derek Wildstar or Captain Avitar from Star Blazers/Yamato

Number 21 :P rince A sh itaka from Mononoke.

Number 25: Rally Vincent and Gunsmith Cats

I don't think we can remove an entry only based on the author's personal opinions. Several great artists where complete jerks in their lives, sometimes espousing the worst ideologies. If the corrupt ideas surface in the work, it is another matter though...

I can only agree with you here :D
The real sign that someone has become a fanatic is that he completely loses his sense of humor about some important facet of his life. When humor goes, it means he's lost his perspective.

I would have Astro number 1 on my list any day, oh did you know Astro was the only manga character on Empire's Top 50 Greatest Comic Book Character list?

I like Dragon Ball, too! (Well, not as much of Z, but it's still the same franchise...)

Oh right, Hideaki Anno's relation to the Aum Shinrikyo...there's so many things in Evangelion that reference the cult's "preaching" that it makes the whole show a lot more disturbing.
